Four Ways to Secure Your Home

Four Ways to Secure Your Home

We are all relieved to hear the national statistics that say that violent crime is decreasing, however, violent crime does still occur.  We owe it to ourselves to not give in to fear. One effective way of doing this is to take control of our own safety and security.  Iron Clad Security Products offers excellent options to help you feel safe and secure in your own home. Below are four excellent ways to secure your home.

Tips to Help Secure Your Home

  1. Illuminate your property – By adding lighting around your home, you will be introducing the possibility of getting caught to would-be burglars and home invaders.  Motion-activated lights are particularly effective because they add an element of surprise that people looking to do bad things do not like.  When a motion-detecting light shines on someone who is sneaking around your property, they are more likely to move on.  Motion-detecting lights tend to be more economical because they use power only when turning on.  And solar-powered motion-detecting lights are even more economical.
  2. Secure your garage – Many garage doors are vulnerable to unwanted criminal entry, some because they are not built to withstand forced entry and others that are made more vulnerable by homeowners who do not secure their garage door openers.  At a minimum, your remote garage door opener should employ a security code, which should be kept secret.  Many garages are also equipped with standard doors for ingress and egress without having to open the garage door itself.  These doors, especially when located around the side of the garage, provide easy entry for criminals.  If your garage and/or garage door have windows, consider covering them so people cannot see in from the outside.
  3. Reduce criminals’ temptation by trimming bushes and shrubs around your house – Tall and too-thick greenery creates hiding places for criminals.  If you are considering adding plants, shrubs, or trees around your house, we recommend choosing lower-profile plants and flowers that do not provide easy hiding places.
  4. Strengthen the most popular points of entry for criminals – These locations are doors and windows.  Iron Clad’s security doors and windows are double-welded, solid steel construction and provide excellent defense against people who would otherwise take the opportunity to exploit your home’s entry points.  The reality is that standard doors and windows do not provide much of an impediment to people who are determined to get inside your home.
